Mary Carmody Nutrition was set up to help people improve their overall Nutrition and health. Mary believes that a combination of healthy eating, making time for exercise, having good quality sleep at night and minimising stress are the keys to a healthy and balanced life and to our overall health.
With 39% of the Irish population overweight and 20% obese, the trend towards obesity is increasing. Since 1990 the prevalence of obesity has increased by 67% overall. A recent survey with school children in Ireland has shown worrying trends in overweight and obese children. Being overweight or obese has shown to increase the likelihood of certain diseases and medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and strokes.
The food we eat is our fuel for life and with our busy lifestyles and so many people juggling so many task each day, eating well can get ignored. Many of Mary’s clients complain of having low energy and are finding it hard to find time to eat properly or do any form of exercise. This is not our fault, as society puts so much pressure on people to eat fast food, takeaway and ready made meals which are not helping our overall health.
During a consultation Mary will identify elements in your diet, lifestyle and other factors, which may be contributing to your symptoms of not feeling well. Your initial consultation will take approximately 1 hour, during which time a thorough analysis of your diet and lifestyle is completed using a questionnaire. A personalised diet and lifestyle programme is agreed using foods and specific nutrients as appropriate to help you achieve optimum health and well being. Some people find that by just doing one consultation and following this personalised diet, they are soon feeling better again. For weightloss consultations, it is normal to visit Mary every week/two weeks for even just 20 minutes to weigh in and have a quick chat to make sure you are being kept motivated and achieving your weight loss goal.
