We started doing these evenings in May 2011 due to the huge popularity of Thai Cooking and people recognising, how important good Nutrition is to overall health. Each evening begins with people arriving and sampling a little thai speciality like mushroom or bean paste or just simply some homemade hummus on spelt crackers and enjoying some mouth watering juices like Elderflower from the health shop or having one of the lovely Pukka teas that Tan has on offer.
Mary discusses:
- Key ingredients used in the Thai Cooking demonstration and tasting and how important these foods are to our health and wellbeing.
- Herbs and Spices and the powerful health benefits and culinary uses that can be made with herbs and spices in our food. superfoods including coriander, chilli, galangal, holy basil.
- The thai superfood Coconut milk, which is used to add sweetness to thai curries. Coconut milk is rich in saturated fat, but as its a plant based saturated fat, it has a different structure to animal based fats. It therefore more readily used as energy in the body rather than being stored as fat.
- A Nutrition topic is discussed each evening including ”how to lose a stone for Christmas”or “anti cancer diet “or “how to keep your immune system boosted “
Tan Cooks:
- Tan cooks up the food each evening describing every step while we all wait for these mouth watering healthy dishes to come out to sample. Dishes are served with some more superfoods wholegrains including brown rice, quinoa( excellent protein sources and also gluten free) and her special Buckwheat noodles( gluten free also and very nutritious noodles) which all tastes so good along with a glass of wine
TESTIMONIALS AND COMMENTS FROM OUR EVENINGS
“ I really enjoyed the healthy Thai cookery course, the information on healthy eating in general from Mary was so helpful and the Thai food cooked by Tan was delicious while still being so good for us! The intimate group made it easy to ask questions during the demonstration and I really enjoyed the food and the glass of wine afterwards! I really enjoyed making the dishes for my family and will definetly be introducing more healthy thai food into our weekly menu. Thanks for the opportunity Mary ! “
