Womens Health

What we eat plays a crucial role in our health at every stage of our life.

For women, nutritional health can have dramatic effects on certain parts of our physiology.  We know how important hormonal balance is for our overall well-being and what we eat can effect our endocrine system, therefore influencing the amounts of hormones our bodies produce, as well as the quality of our hormones.

As children grow into adults, the body undergoes many rapid changes focused on sexual development and therefore needs good nutrition to avoid any side effects.  Acne, obesity, eating, mental and behavioural problems can affect people throughout this change so girls and boys need more Vitimans A, D and B6 and Biotin, zinc, calcium, magnesium and essential fatty acids during puberty. Zinc and magnesium are  often found lacking and zinc is needed for the sexual maturation of both sexes and also for growth.   Protein is very important also as adolescents are still growing so its important to encourage teenagers to follow a healthy diet during this important period in their lives.

Many of the health problems that women face throughout their lives are caused by an unhealthy diet, a lack of exercise, an overload of stress and the hormonal imbalances and body system malfunctions that a poor lifestyle causes.  Nutrition will provide a cornerstone treatment for all women’s hormonal problems, including mood swings, weight problems, issues with menstruation, and infertility.  In addition, a good diet can reduce your susceptibility to heart disease, osteoporosis and arthritis – all of which can in particular, affect women during menopause.

A woman’s body relies upon a balanced diet, which is made up of good quality protein and essential fats, unrefined complex carbohydrates and fibre as well as plenty of vitamins and minerals.   Even without specific problems to treat, good nutrition is a must for any woman who wants to stay healthy and look and feel well both inside and outside at every stage of their life.
